Admit it, you have one too - a list of things "You really should do one of these days". In early 1996 I decided to do something about my list - I wrote it down and promised to start tackling them, one by one. So in July 1996, I scratched the first item off that list, and fulfilled a long-standing dream: Take a SCUBA-diving class and experience breathing underwater!
I had my doubts when I started the coursework, but after my first breath underwater, I was hooked! After over eighty dives in Lake Travis, Cozumel, and the Texas Flower Gardens, I wanted more! I'd taken my PADI Advanced and Rescue Diver courses, but most of all, I wanted to help bring SCUBA to new students and lead some exciting dive trips.
As a result, I became a PADI Divemaster in August 1998!
I became a "PADI Diving Professional",
helping PADI Instructors with student training, and helping lead
dive trips when they needed a responsible Divemaster.
There's nothing so inspiring as watching the awe and
amazement of a new diver, taking their first breath in the shallow end of
the pool. It reminds me just why I love this wonderful sport!
Thinking about a dive in the LCRA Park at Mansfield Dam in Austin Texas?
Or curious to see what a Divemaster's underwater map looks like? Check
out my "Recreational and Touring" underwater map!
It's rather dated (I made it in the summer of '98), but most items are
pretty big and hard to move around.
They've added lots of goodies since they
reopened the park in May '00 so check out the more recent maps on various
local dive shop pages.
My wonderful wife Beth is as much of a diving enthusiast as I am, and we dive all the time, sometimes 2-3 times a month! We went to Bonaire in June 2004, are Cozumel regulars, dive on Gulf Oil Rigs frequently, as well as taking Flower Gardens trips! The diving is just more and more fun every year!
These days I am a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and Emergency First Response Instructor. With over 700 logged dives (not including pool dives), I'm fully-certified, registered, insured and actively teaching students every month. I also teach CPR, First Aid and AED to scuba divers and non-divers alike.
So let me know if you want to learn how to dive - I can set ya up!
And to add icing to the cake,
Beth is a PADI Divemaster! Together, Beth and I are that rarest of cohorts, a husband and wife instruction team. Rockin!
