Eighteen Palms, Dive #9 - 8 June 2004

Goldentail Moray Eel

Blackbar Soldierfish

Three-Rowed Sea Cucumber

Spotted Moral Eel

From my logbook:

Great dive! Tons of fish life. Spent first part of the dive looking for a yellow Frogfish [supposedly] in a barrel sponge (just South of the sponge) which was itself South of the mooring. No luck.

Two Flounders together, a pair of huge Porcupinefish & a third big one, I found a little Scorpionfish - white & half-buried, a large freeswimming Spotted Moray Eel, a few tiny Eels including a Chain Moray, a cleaning station. One Rock Hind chased off another by head-butting him amid-body. A weird Cucumber Beth found, Beth photographing a Coney. Beth found a large Spotted Moray; the mouth had a tiny Goby darting in and out; the tail had 2 Shrimps hanging nearby. Good find!

Finally [at the end of the dive] a huge "playground" coral bed in 12 ft. of water - juveniles of all species, if I had another 20 min. & a 105 lens it would've been spectacular. Beth got a wide-angle shot of it.
